------ENGLISH TRANSLATION---------
1. Ya-Sin. (Only Allah and the Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him] know the real meaning.)
2. By the Qur’an, full of Wisdom,
3. You are indeed one of the Messengers,
4. On the Straight Path.
5. This is revealed by Almighty, Ever-Merciful,
6. That you may warn the people whose fathers were (also) not warned. So they are careless and neglectful.
7. In fact Our Command has proved true against most of them. So they will not believe.
8. Surely We have put iron collars round their necks reaching their chins. So they have raised their heads up.
9. And We have set a wall before them and a wall behind them, and We have cast a veil over their eyes so they do not see anything.
10. And it is all the same for them whether you warn or do not warn them, they will not believe.
11. You can only warn him who follows the direction and guidance and fears the Most Kind Lord unseen. So give him the good news of forgiveness and a reward of great honour.
12. Surely We alone raise the dead alive. And We are writing down (the deeds) which they have sent forward and their effects (that are left behind). And We have encompassed everything in the illumining Book (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz).
13. And (in story-telling style) narrate to them the example of the people of a city (Antioch – an ancient city in North Syria), when there came to them some Messengers.
14. When (at first) We sent to them two Messengers, they rejected them both. Then We reinforced (them) with a third (Messenger). Then the three of them said: ‘Surely we have been sent to you.’
15. (The people of the city) said: ‘You are but human beings like us, and the Most Kind Lord has not sent down anything. You are only lying.’
16. (The Messengers) said: ‘Our Lord knows that assuredly we have been sent to you.
17. And there is no binding upon us except to communicate the message expressly.’
18. (The people of the city) said: ‘An evil omen has reached us from you. If you do not desist, we shall certainly stone you and you will definitely suffer an agonizing punishment at our hands.’
19. (The Messengers) said: ‘Your evil omen is with you. Is it an evil omen that you are admonished? Nay, but you are a people who exceed limits.’
20. And a person came running from the farthest end of the city. He said: ‘O my people, follow the Messengers.
21. Follow those who do not ask from you any compensation and who are rightly guided.
22. And what is the matter with me that I should not worship Him Who has created me and to Him (all of) you will be returned?
23. Should I take such gods apart from Him (Allah) that if the Most Kind Lord intends to do me any harm, their intercession would not bring me any benefit, nor would they be able to rescue me?
24. Then, certainly I would be in open error.
25. Surely, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me (attentively).’
26. (The disbelievers martyred him; then it) was said (to him): ‘(Come,) enter Paradise.’ He said: ‘Alas! Would that my people knew,
27. That my Lord has forgiven me and put me among the honoured and near ones.’
28. And, after him, We did not send any army (of angels) from the heaven to his people, nor were We to send down (angels to destroy them).
29. (Their torment) was nothing but a Mighty Blast, and there were they put out (dead like charred coal).
30. Ah! Woe to (these) servants! Never did a Messenger come to them but they used to mock him.
31. Have they not seen how many communities We destroyed before them, and that now they will not return to them,
32. But that all of them will be brought before Our Presence?
33. And a sign for them is the dead earth to which We gave life, and We brought forth from it (grain); then they eat of it.
34. And We produced in it gardens of date-palms and grapes, and also caused some springs as well to gush forth in it,
35. So that they may eat of its fruits. And it is not their hands that made it. Do they not thank (even) then?
36. Glory be to Him Who created everything in pairs of those the earth grows and of themselves as well and, (moreover,) of the things they do not know.
37. And (also) a sign for them is the night: (how) We draw the day out from it! So then they are left in darkness!
38. And the sun is always rotating (non-stop) for its appointed destination. It is a measure fixed by Almighty, All-Knowing (Lord).
39. And We have also appointed stages (of motion and rotation) of the moon till (its appearance to the dwellers of the earth wanes to) the semblance of an old dry branch of a palm-tree.
40. Neither can the sun (deviate from its orbit and) overtake the moon nor can the night precede the day and all (the stars and planets) are moving in their (respective) orbits.
41. And a Sign for them is (also) that We boarded their fathers (the Children of Adam) into the laden Ark of (Nuh [Noah] and saved them).
42. And like this (Ark) We made for them (many other means of transport) which they ride.
43. And if We intend We drown them. Then, there will not be any to respond to their cry, nor will they be saved anyway,
44. Except for Our Mercy and (this) provision is for an appointed term.
45. And when it is said to them: ‘Fear that (torment) which is before you and which is behind you so that you may be shown Mercy.’
46. And not a Sign of the Signs of their Lord comes to them but they turn away from it.
47. And when it is said to them: ‘Spend (in the way of Allah) of what Allah has given you,’ the disbelievers say to the believers: ‘Shall we feed that (poor) man whom, if Allah so willed, He would feed (Himself)?’ You are but (caught) in clear error.
48. And they say: ‘When will this promise (of the Last Hour) be fulfilled if you are truthful?’
49. They are simply waiting for a Mighty Blast which will seize them (all of sudden), and they will be disputing among themselves.
50. Then they will not be able to make a will or to return to their families.
51. And (when) the Trumpet will be blown (again) they will come out of the graves at once and run towards their Lord.
52. (Seeing the horrors of the Hour of Resurrection,) they will say: ‘Ah, woe to us! Who has raised us from our sleeping apartments? This (coming back to life) is the same that the Most Kind Lord promised and the Messengers spoke the Truth.’
53. This will only be a Mighty Blast. Then all of them will be brought to Our Presence straight away.
54. So today no soul will be wronged in the least. Nor will you be rewarded except for the deeds you used to do.
55. Surely the residents of Paradise will be rejoicing today (in their) favourite pastime pursuits (like spiritual visits, entertainments, sessions of hymns and spiritual musical performance and other favours).
56. They and their wives will be reclining on raised couches under the deep calming shades.
57. There they will be provided with fruits (of every kind) and will find (available) everything they will solicit.
58. ‘Peace (be upon you)!’ (This) greeting will be conveyed (to them) from the Ever-Merciful Lord.
59. ‘And, O evildoers, get aside (from the righteous) this Day.
60. O Children of Adam! Did I not take this covenant from you not to worship Satan; no doubt he is your open enemy;
61. And that you keep worshipping Me alone? That is the straight path.
62. And surely he led great many of you astray, so had you not any wisdom?
63. This is the same Hell that was being promised to you.
64. Enter this Hell today, for you kept disbelieving.’
65. Today We shall seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to the deeds which they used to earn.
66. And if We had so willed, We would have obliterated the very marks of their eyes. Then if they would have run on the path, how could they have seen?
67. And if We had so intended, We would have defaced them in their places. Then they would have power neither to go forward nor to turn back.
68. And someone whom We give long life, We cause him to degenerate (towards childhood and debility) in strength and disposition. So, do they not have sense?
69. And We have not taught him (the Holy Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him]) composing poetry, nor does it befit his dignity. This (Book) is but direction and guidance and the illumining Qur’an,
70. So that it may warn the one who is alive and the word of judgment may be proved against the disbelievers.
71. Have they not seen that We created for them cattle out of the (Creation) We made with Our Mighty Hand; so they are their owners?
72. And We subjected those (cattle) to them. So some of them are their riding animals, and they eat some of them.
73. And there are other benefits and drinks in them as well for them. Then why they do not give thanks?
74. And they have made idols their gods other than Allah with the hope that they will be helped.
75. These idols are incapable of helping them. And these (disbelievers and polytheists) will be an army of these (idols) that will be brought (into Hell together).
76. So let not what they utter hurt you. Surely We know whatever they hide and whatever they make public.
77. Has man not seen that We have created him from a sperm drop? Even then, he has become an open adversary.
78. And he (himself) puts forth examples for Us and has forgotten (the truth of) his creation. He says: ‘Who will give life to bones when they will have been decomposed?’
79. Say: ‘He Who created them the first time will give them life. And He knows best every Creation,
80. He Who produces fire for you out of the green tree so now you kindle fire with the same!
81. And has He Who created the heavens and the earth not the power to create the like of them (again)?’ Yes indeed! And He is the Supreme Creator, All-Knowing.
82. His Command (of creation) is only that when He intends (to create) something, He says to it: ‘Be,’ so it instantly becomes (existent or visible and continues becoming).
83. So, Glory be to Him in Whose Hand (Power and Control) is the Sovereignty over everything and to Him you will be returned.

Sawom and the Fasting of Ramadan

The Month of Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is a great month. It is the month in which Allah revealed the Quran as a guidance for the whole of mankind. It is the month in which Allah gave the Muslims victory in their first and greatest  battle at Badr. It is the month which has  Laylat al-Qadr, a night which is better than a thousand months.
In Ramadan the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the shayaateen (devils) are tied up and the reward for good deeds, acts of charity and acts of worship are multiplied in this month.

Definition of Fasting

Fasting means abstaining from several things, from just before the starting of dawn (i.e. just before the start of Fajr) until sunset, with the intention of fasting.
A Muslim fasting must abstain from the following
  • Food and Drink
  • Sexual intercourse
  • masturbation (most scholars say this not allowed even when not fasting)
  • deliberately causing one's self to vomit
If these four things listed above are done deliberately a persons fast will be broken.

Why Do Muslims Fast In Ramadan?

It has been enjoined on us so that we may become pious. A pious Muslim and Muslimah does whatever Allah and His Messenger have  told them to do. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"O you who believe! Observing As-Sawm (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious)? [al-Baqarah 2:183]
And Allah says in a hadeeth qudsi:
Fasting is for Me and I will reward for it. He gives up his desire and his food and drink for My sake." Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7492; Muslim, 1151.
The purpose of fasting is not to just get hungry and thirsty but it is to become pious. So one should stay away from Un-Islamic things such as:
  • Getting angry
  • Using Bad language
  • Back biting and gossip
  • Arguing and fighting with Muslims.
  • Being rude and impolite
  • Looking, touching , flirting with non-mehrems of the opposite sex.
  • lying and cheating
  • Engaging in riba (interest, usury)
  • women non wearing Hijab
  • men shaving beards and having cloths below ankles
  • allying with the enemies of Islam against the Muslims
  • promoting Un-Islamic ideologies such as democracy and socialism.
  • basically staying away from anything that is Haram
Prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever does not give up false speech and false actions and ignorance, Allah has no need of his giving up his food and drink." Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6057.
He also (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A fasting person may get nothing from his fast except hunger and the one who prays at night may get nothing from his qiyaam but a sleepless night." Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 1690; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah.
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting is not just (abstention) from food and drink, rather fasting is (abstention) from idle and obscene talk.” Narrated by al-Haakim and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’ (5376).
The reward for fasting is immense, as mentioned in the following Hadeeth
"Every action of the son of Adam is given manifold reward, each good deed receiving then times its like, up to seven hundred times. Allah the Most High said, 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give recompense for it, he leaves off his desires and his food for Me.' for the fasting person there are two times of joy; a time when he breaks his fast and a time of joy when he meets his Lord, and the smell coming from the mouth of the fasting person is better with Allah than the smell of musk." [al-Bukhaaree]
Also, Sahl ibn Sa`d said that the Prophet (peace be upon him.) said: "Indeed there is a gate of Paradise called ar-Rayyaan. On the day of Resurrection those who fast will enter through it; no one enters it except for them, and when they have entered, it is closed so that no one enters it, so when the last of them enters it, it is closed, and whoever enters it drinks, and whoever drinks never becomes thirsty." [Ibn Khuzaimah, Saheeh].
Fasting is a shield against the Fire:
"Fasting is a shield with which a servant protects himself from the Fire." [Ahmad, Saheeh]
On the Day of Judgment, "Fasting will say: O My Lord I prevented him from food and desires so accept my intercession for him." [Ahmad, al-Haakim and Abu Nu'aim, Hasan]
Fasting is a means for one's sins to be forgiven.
The Prophet (peace be upon him.) said: "He who fasts Ramadan, due to Iman and hoping for reward (from Allah) then his past sins are forgiven."[al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]
- The supplication of the fasting person is answered:
There are in the month of Ramadan in every day and night those to whom Allah grants freedom from the Fire, and there is for every Muslim a supplication which he can make and will be granted." [al-Bazzaar, Ahmad, Saheeh]

How to Fast and rulings regarding fasting

The Intention
It is obligatory for the fasting person to confirm his/her intention before the appearance of fajr.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said "He who does not resolve to fast before it is fajr, then there is no fast for him"(Abu Dawood)
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever does not intend to fast before dawn, there is no fast for him." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 730. According to a version narrated by al-Nasaa'i (2334): "Whoever does not intend to fast from the night before, there is no fast for him." Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 573.
The place of intention is the heart and to utter it verbally is not established from the Prophet (peace be upon him) or his companions, may Allah be pleased with them. Thus one should make intention in ones heart before going to sleep.

The time for beginning and ending the fast.

i ) There are two types of fajr:
-False fajr and True fajr
a) False Fajr, At this time  it is unlawful to pray fajr prayer but it is permissible to eat for the one intending to fast. The false fajr is distinguished by a rising vertical column of whiteness which appears like the  tail of a wolf
b) True fajr. At this time it is lawful to pray the fajr pray but is it unlawful to eat for one who is fasting. It is distinguished by a white light coming across the horizon in the East ,
Thus one should stop all eating and drinking before the True fajr.
ii) The meal that is taken before the fajr is called Suhoor (predawn meal)
We should make sure that we eat and drink something at Suhoor, and that we delay it until just before the adhaan of Fajr.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said "The distinction between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the book is the taking of the pre -dawn meal (Suhoor)" (Muslim)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: " Have Suhoor, for in Suhoor there is blessing (barakah)." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Fath, 4/139)
"Suhoor is blessed food, and it involves being different from the people of the Book. What a good Suhoor for the believer is dates." (Reported by Abu Dawood, no. 2345; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/448).
He (peace be upon him) also said "The Suhoor is a meal of blessings, so do not leave it, even if one of you takes just a gulp of water, since Allah sends mercy and His angels seek forgiveness for those who take Suhoor" (Ahmad)
It is also guidance of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to delay the Suhoor meal until just before the true fajr. (note along with no eating or drinking whilst fasting. one can not have sexual intercourse with spouse. kissing and hugging is allowed but if such close contact causes ejaculation then this will break the fast. Also swallowing some one elses saliva invalidates the fast.

The time to breaking the fast (Iftar).
This time is as soon as Maghrib Starts (after sun has set). If you are in the Masjid or close by and hear the Athan for Maghrib prayer then it means you can now break your fast.
One should hasten to break the fast because the (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The people will be fine so long as they do not delay iftaar." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Fath, 4/198). He (peace be upon him) also said "My Ummah will not cease to be upon my Sunnah as long as they do not await the stars when breaking the fast" (Ibn Hibban). So as soon as Maghrib begins (i.e. if you are in the Masjid and Athan is said) one should start to break the fast immediately.
Break the fast in the manner described in the hadeeth narrated by Anas (may Allah be pleased with him):
"The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to break his fast with fresh dates before praying; if fresh dates were not available, he would eat (dried) dates; if dried dates were not available, he would have a few sips of water." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 3/79 and others. He said it is a ghareeb hasan hadeeth. Classed as saheeh in al-Irwa?, no. 922).
Importance of last 10 Nights of Ramadan
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Agreed upon).
Whilst seeking Laylat al Qadr
Aishah said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He said, ‘Say: Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).”(Narrated by Imam Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi (3515) and Ibn Maajah (3850). Its isnaad is saheeh).

How To Pray SALAH

Face the Qiblah (toward Mecca), and make sure you’re in a clean area, now you are about to start one of the following prayers: 1st prayer (Subh), 2nd prayer (Dhuhr), 3rd (Asr), 4th (Maghrib), 5th (Ishaa).

Standing, you will start the prayer raising both hands up close to your ears and say "Allahu Akbar" (God is Most Great). (Look at the picture on the side).
prayer_files/image001.jpg
Then put one hand on the top of the other hand between your chest and upper stomach, and start reciting surat “al fatiha”, say “ameen” once you finish it, and then start reciting another small surat.
prayer_files/image002.jpg
Once you finish reciting raise your hands up to the ears, saying "Allahu Akbar." Bow (your hands on your knees, back straight, your face toward the ground, saying three times, "Subhana rabbiyal adheem" (Glory be to my Lord Almighty). This position is called (ruku’). See photo.
prayer_files/image003.jpg
Rise back to standing while saying "Sami’a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd" (God hears those who call upon Him; Our Lord, praise be to You).

Raise hands up, saying "Allahu Akbar" then descend to the ground (see photo), while your face on the ground say three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High). This position is called “sujud”

This will conclude the first “rak’a”. Now to start the second “raka’a” you simply need to repeat steps from 2 to 8. Note that at the end of your second “rak’a” you will have to add step 9, which is:

Rise to a sitting positition (see photo), remain sitting and recite the first part of the Tashahhud in Arabic:  "Atta-hiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu As-salamu 'ala an-Nabiyy wa rahmat-ullahi wa barakatuhu As-salamu 'alaina wa 'alaa 'Ibaadillah-is-salihin. Ash-hadu-al-la-ilaha illAllahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluh”. Note that while reciting “Ash-hadu-al-la ilaha illaAllahu …” one should move the index finger of the right hand in a small circle like you’re drawing a circle on the sand beach with your index while the hand is still on the thigh. Only the index should be moving, the rest of the fingers and hand don’t have to move. See photo:

If the prayer is to be longer than 2 “rak'as”, then add the same steps from 2 to 8 depending on how many “rak’as” you have to perfom, for example if you have to make 4 “rak’as” then you will have to add steps 2 to 8 two more times (which means 4 times in total). Then finally add the step number 9 again (basically after each two “rak’as” the step #9 is required).
Main prayers of the day:
 1st prayer (Subh) = 2 Rakats
 2nd prayer (Dhuhr) = 4 Rakats
 3rd prayer (Asr) = 4 Rakats
 4th prayer (Maghrib) = 3 Rakats
 5th prayer (Ishaa) = 4 Rakats
To end your prayer, while still sitting, turn your face to the right and say "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" (Peace be upon you and God's blessings), and turn to the left and say the same “Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah". And that’s how you finish your prayer, easy!
Example of how to pray the 3rd Prayer (Asr) which consist of 4 Rakats: Follow steps 1-8, then steps 2-9, then steps 2-8, then finally step 2-10.

Note:  There is a second half part of tashahhud which is recited in the final “rak’a” but if it can be learned later, you don’t have to do it if you’re still in your first days, it says “Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ala aali Muhammad kama salaita ala Ibraheem, wa barik ala Muhammad wa ala aali Muhammad kama barakta ala Ibraheem wa ala aali Ibraheem fel ‘alameena innaka hameedun majeed”, this will be added to step 9 before reaching step 10.
